Solar car today is increasingly becoming an option for consumers as environmentally friendly cars that using green energy. Named Emilia 2 the only solar car that was made in Maranello, Italy, will race in
2011 Australia's World Solar Challenge that will start from 16 to 23 October. The Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo has hailed the
Onda solare team congratulating as the result of research and innovation, and wishing good luck to win the race.
The car has been presented at Ferrari Museum in Maranello in the Hall of Victory. The challenge will be a prestigious competition dedicated to
solar-powered electric cars. The team consist of Gian Carlo Muzzarelli, Councillor for Productive Activities of the Emilia-Romagna, Graziano Prantoni, Councillor for Mobility and Traffic of the Province of Bologna, Lucia Bursi, Maranello mayor and president of the Motor City.
After revealing the Emilia 2, Claudio Rossi, a researcher and lecturer at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Bologna, said, "Emilia 2 was developed by the University, the young and small firms, its futuristic but the technological are not science fiction, these are technologies of our day, even now also applicable to conventional vehicles. Emilia 2 demonstrates that the synergy between universities and small or even very small firms in highly innovative and competitive technology produces results " .
Onda solare is only Italian team in Australia's race. The Emilia 2 prototype has succeeded race about 3,000 km of Australian desert from Darwin to Adelaide. The solar electric car is made from almost entirely in carbon fibre, Kevlar and Nomex, it have a high efficiency powered by 6sqm of silicon photovoltaic cells. The light and fast solar car has took years of gestation with analyses, trials, tests, and studies to confront. The Emilia 2 is ready to battle all the solar cars from around the world in
Australia's 2011 World Solar Challenge.
