Solar panel efficiency is a key word in the development of photovoltaic panels and many companies are focused on research to improve it. Solar panels have a maximum current efficiency of only 16%.
Now, the company Semprius based in North Carolina, United States, in collaboration with Siemens multinational have managed to make the most efficient solar panel which able to take 33.9% of the light falling on it.
The tests were supervised by the Solar Energy Institute of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (IES-UPM). Semprius announced last year that they had achieved a record efficiency of 41% in a solar cell. It is to be taken into account that the efficiency of a single cell is always greater than the
efficiency of the panel that is a part.
Some may not represent much, but for companies that struggle every day to increase only 1% is a great achievement. The Siemens has 16% share of Semprius.
It is likely that in the coming years and as materials engineering progress is going to increase the
efficiency of solar panels. But for now, we can say that 33.9%
solar panel efficiency is set the record.
