High-speed trains get power from Solar Tunnel


The high-speed trains use some of its journey by solar power has succeeded in taking the first trip from Paris to Amsterdam. A Solar Tunnel project has installed about 16,000 solar panels along the 3.4 km above the roof of man-made train tunnel in Belgium.

The project was the result of cooperation between municipalities Brasschaat and Schoten in Belgium. Its expected to generate electricity up to 3,300 megawatt-hours annually for 950 homes in Belgium. Solar Tunnel are located along high-speed rail line at E19 highway.

The solar tunnel panels installation by Solar Power Systems and solar developers Enfinity and its have provided power for the signaling, lighting, and heating for the Antwerp North-South junction and the Antwerp Central Station. The results of the project will be scrutinized for the possibility could be applied to other projects.
